ABOUT

Tucked into the southeast corner of Arkansas, Overflow National Wildlife Refuge protects one of the last great bottomland hardwood forests that waterfowl depend on along the Mississippi Flyway. Spanning more than 13,000 acres in Ashley County, this vast wetland landscape blends seasonally flooded forests, managed impoundments, and croplands into a thriving sanctuary for wildlife. Each winter, the refuge’s 4,000-acre greentree reservoir comes alive as rising waters transform the woods into a shimmering seasonal marsh—a vital stopover and wintering ground for mallards, wood ducks, and countless migrating species. Whether you come for birding, photography, or the quiet beauty of a forest that turns to water, Overflow offers one of South Arkansas’s most immersive natural experiences.
